Team Picker Wheel

Stop arguing about who plays with whom. This team picker wheel starts loaded with four team names — call each player up, spin, and they join whichever team the pointer lands on. Or swap in player names to pick captains and set a fair pick order.

Two fair ways to build teams

The first workflow uses the wheel as it loads: keep the team names on the wheel, then have each player spin (or spin for them) and join the team it lands on. Every team slice has an equal chance on every spin, so nobody can claim the sides were stacked. Rename the slices to match your real team names, or add a fifth and sixth team by typing extra lines.

The second workflow flips it around: replace the team names with your player list, one name per line, and spin to pick captains or set the draft order. Turn on auto remove winner so each picked player leaves the wheel — the first spin picks captain one, the second picks captain two, and no name can come up twice. The results history keeps the pick order visible for everyone to check.

If you run the same group every week — a PE class, a five-a-side crew, a regular game night — save the roster to My Wheels and it reopens on that device in one click. You can also send a Quick Share link so another coach gets a copy, or open a Spin With Friends room so remote players watch the exact same spin live.

How to use the team picker wheel

  1. Choose your workflow. Keep the preset team names to assign players one by one, or replace them with player names to pick captains and draft order.
  2. Edit the entries. Type or paste your team or player names into the list, one per line. The wheel redraws as you type.
  3. Spin for each pick. Click Spin or the wheel itself. For team assignment, the player joins the team under the pointer; for captains, the name that lands is picked.
  4. Remove picked names. When spinning through a player list, turn on auto remove winner so nobody is picked twice and the results history records the order.

Tip: for even team sizes, remove a team name from the wheel once it fills up — with 12 players and 4 teams, drop each team after its third player joins.

Where the team wheel keeps things fair

Any time sides have to be split or a captain has to be chosen, a visible spin ends the debate before it starts:

Sports

Practice scrimmages

Call players up one at a time and spin to sort them onto sides. Nobody gets picked last, and nobody accuses the coach of stacking a team.

Classrooms

PE class and group work

Assign students to teams or project groups with a spin they can all watch — arguments about unfair sides disappear.

Games

Captains and draft order

Put player names on the wheel, spin twice for two captains, then let them draft. Auto remove winner stops repeat picks.

Esports

Custom lobbies and scrims

Randomize which players go to which side in customs, or spin for who gets first pick in a map or hero draft.

Work

Office games and hackathons

Split colleagues into trivia teams, hackathon groups, or tournament brackets without anyone engineering the lineup.

Parties

Party game teams

Charades, pictionary, backyard games — spin to sort guests onto sides so the same friends do not always team up.

Common questions about the team picker wheel

Does the team picker wheel split my list into teams automatically?

No. The wheel makes one random pick per spin. To build teams, either spin the team wheel once per player as you call them up, or spin a player wheel repeatedly with auto remove winner to draft names in a random order.

Is every team or player picked with the same odds?

Yes. Every enabled entry gets an equal-sized slice and an equal chance on each spin, using fresh browser-based random selection every time. If you ever want uneven odds on purpose, Advanced mode lets you set visible per-entry weights.

How do I stop the same player being picked twice?

Turn on auto remove winner. Each spin removes the picked name from the wheel, so captains and draft picks can never repeat. You can also remove a name manually after any spin.

How do I keep the teams the same size?

Track how many players each team has as you go, and delete a team name from the entries list once it is full. The wheel redraws instantly, so remaining players are only assigned to teams with open spots.

Can I save my roster and reuse it next week?

Yes. Save the wheel to My Wheels and it is stored in your browser on that device, ready to reopen in one click. You can also download the wheel as a file, or hand the roster to an assistant with a Quick Share snapshot link.

Is the team picker wheel free?

Yes. Spinning, saving, sharing, live rooms, and customization are all free, and no account is needed.
