Frequently Asked Questions
ChoiceSpin is a free online wheel spinner and random picker for names, teams, giveaways, classrooms, games, and everyday decisions. This page explains how the wheel works, what you can customize, how My Wheels and sharing behave, and where to go if you need help.
1. Getting started
Start here if you want the quick version of what ChoiceSpin does and how people use it.
What is ChoiceSpin?
ChoiceSpin is a free online wheel spinner and random picker. You can use it for names, teams, giveaways, classroom activities, party games, and everyday choices.
What can I put on the wheel?
You can add names, numbers, prizes, prompts, tasks, menu ideas, or almost any short list you want to spin.
Shorter labels are easier to read on the wheel, especially when the list gets big.
How many entries can I use?
ChoiceSpin supports at least 2 entries and up to 2000 entries.
When a list gets very large, the wheel may render a moving visible window while still keeping the full list in the spin. That helps performance and readability.
Can I use ChoiceSpin for classrooms, giveaways, teams, or everyday decisions?
Yes. Those are some of the most natural ways to use it.
- Pick a random student or speaking order.
- Choose a giveaway winner from a list of entrants.
- Split players into teams quickly.
- Use it as a decision wheel for food, chores, movies, or games.
Can I make the wheel easier to present on a big screen?
Yes. Use the Fullscreen button when you want the wheel to be the main focus on a projector, stream, classroom display, or live call.
2. Randomness
These answers are written to be honest about what the current app does, not to make stronger claims than the product can support.
Is the wheel really random?
ChoiceSpin uses fresh browser-based pseudo-random selection for each spin. That is enough for normal classroom, giveaway, team-picking, and decision-making use.
In plain English: the wheel does not try to favor one entry unless you have deliberately changed the weights.
How do you handle randomness on ChoiceSpin?
The app uses browser-based random logic inside the wheel engine and spins each time as a new event.
ChoiceSpin currently describes its results as pseudo-random rather than cryptographically guaranteed. That wording is intentional and more trustworthy.
Why did I get the same result twice?
Because repeated outcomes are a normal part of randomness. One spin does not remember the last spin.
If you do not want repeats, use the after-spin auto-remove option or edit the list after a winner is chosen.
Does Shuffle make the wheel fairer?
No. Shuffle only changes the order of the entries in your list. It does not make a fair wheel more fair.
It is useful for organization and variety, but it does not improve the randomness of the actual spin.
Can I make some entries more likely to win?
Yes. In Advanced mode, each entry can have its own weight.
Bigger weight means a larger share of the wheel and a higher chance of winning. For example, a weight of 2 is intended to beat a weight of 1 more often over many spins.
3. Customization
ChoiceSpin is designed to start simple, then give you more control when you want it.
Can I customize the wheel?
Yes. ChoiceSpin supports several layers of customization.
- Wheel colors and themes
- Background images and center images
- Per-entry option images
- Spin duration and sound settings
- After-spin controls such as confetti and auto-remove winner
Can I change how long the wheel spins?
Yes. Open Customize and use the During spin controls to change the spin duration.
Can I turn sounds on or off?
Yes. ChoiceSpin has controls for spin sounds and after-spin sounds, including volume controls and mute-style behavior.
Can I add images to the wheel?
Yes. You can add an image inside the wheel background, put an image in the center, and attach images to individual entries.
What does Advanced mode do?
Advanced mode gives you per-entry control. That includes things like weight, color, image, and better entry management when a plain text list is not enough.
Can I remove winners automatically after each spin?
Yes. In Customize > After spin, you can turn on auto-remove winner.
That is useful for raffles, classroom name picking, turn order, and any other case where you do not want the same entry to stay in the pool.
4. Saving and My Wheels
ChoiceSpin gives you two practical ways to keep a wheel: save it locally in My Wheels
or download it as a .wheel file.
How do I save a wheel for later?
Click Save. From there, you can store the wheel in
My Wheels on your device or download it as a
.wheel file.
My Wheels is the fastest option if you mainly use the same browser and device. A downloaded file is better when you want a portable backup.
What is My Wheels?
My Wheels is ChoiceSpin's local wheel library. It lets you save and reopen wheels without rebuilding them from scratch each time.
It is designed for convenience, especially when you reuse the same classroom, giveaway, or game wheels often.
Can I access My Wheels on another device?
Not automatically. My Wheels is local to the browser and device where you saved it.
If you want the same wheel somewhere else, use a share link or download the wheel file and open it on the new device.
Can I download a wheel file and open it later?
Yes. ChoiceSpin can download your current wheel as a .wheel file,
and you can later reopen that file with the Open button.
Does my saved wheel update automatically after I edit it?
No. If you change the wheel and want the saved copy to reflect those changes, save it again.
6. Privacy and support
These answers cover the most common trust, policy, and support questions.
Do I need an account to use ChoiceSpin?
No. You can start using the main wheel spinner without creating an account.
Do ads affect the result?
No. Ads do not decide the winner. The result comes from the wheel logic and your current settings.
Should I put personal or sensitive data in shared or live wheels?
It is safer not to put private or sensitive information into wheels that you plan to share publicly or use in live rooms.
For anything sensitive, keep the wheel local and avoid broad sharing.
Do you have a public API or official embed mode?
Not at the moment. ChoiceSpin currently focuses on the browser app, sharing, the public gallery, and live synced rooms rather than a public API or dedicated embed product.
Where can I read the privacy policy, cookie policy, and terms?
